Saying goodbye at the airport was one of the hardest things I could have done. First saying goodbye to John’s mom, then calling my best friend, then my mom and dad. Watching my kids play in the Ottawa airport while tearing up on the phone is the hardest part. They don’t understand what is happening, but I certainly do. Once tearful goodbyes were said, we got on the plane. A 4:00 plane is not easy for kids who are going to have to sit still for 8 hours quietly. They were not tired, and got bored fairly quickly. The TV movies were not interesting, and the TV shows were either too old, or too young – which meant playing lots and lots of games. 8 hours and a very tired Mommy and Daddy later, we land in Frankfurt; with a 3 hour layover! After waiting almost an hour and a half through customs, and them searching every single thing we brought, we got through! By then, the kids were dying to use a bathroom, and fed up of being “nice” and “quiet” through security. Moving escalators are a child’s favorite thing in an airport it seems – and Frankfurt has enough of them! Thankfully there were not a lot of people, and the boys could run across, or go as slow as possible. Another hour wait once we got to the next set of gates, and a 45 minute plane ride to Dusseldorf, we were on the home stretch. Got in our waiting Taxi, and headed to our hotel!!!
